PROJECT DETAILS
The Research Population
The research population consisted of primarily Black womxn, and womxn of colour between the ages of 18-29. Previous research, observation and interactions within the community informed the need for further exploration of alternative health models that can better support the complexity of Black womxn’s health in Toronto. d'bi.young anitafrika developed the primary research question of investigating the effectiveness of arts based interventions in the improvement of Black womxn’s health. The Anitafrika Method Workshops were conducted at The Watah Theatre located in the Artscape Distillery District location and at a retreat centre

encompassing gender, gender identity, race, class, violence, sexual orientation, religion, culture, language, disability, immigration status and socio-economic circumstances. All efforts were made in the project to serve this mandate and the community it is geared toward.
